Official
Envision Land Covenant for All Tenants
Delivered
in the form of a Question & Answer, this covenant serves as the
rational backing for decisions made about your virtual assets, your
presence, and the presence of others on Envision. The Covenant may be
updated from time to time; I will send out a group notice to land
owners when this happens.
Q: You said I'm locked in to my
price. Can I cancel at
any time?
A:
Of course!
Send me an IM, or drop me a notecard, explaining that you
would like to withdraw from Envision. I will reclaim the parcel(s) you
are withdrawing from, and will no longer expect to receive monthly fees
from you.
Q: What if I'm late on payment?
A:
Payments are expected
to be on time. But:
- If I do not receive payment on the day it is due, I will
make an attempt to contact you daily until I have received payment.
- If
I cannot contact you at all for a full
week, I will reclaim your land
and put it back up for sale, returning all objects on the parcel to
their respective owners (or deleting them if they are no transfer).
- If
I am able to contact you, I will ask for an explanation of the
lateness. Then, at my discretion, I may allow a period of lateness in
excess of a week to accommodate your needs.
- Exceptions will be
made for illness, vacation, financial troubles, and so on. The better
you communicate with me, the more likely I'll be to let your parcel
continue as-is without reclaiming it
Q: Envision is a Mature sim.
What are the consequences of this?
A:
Linden will not object to depictions of adult content on Envision. By
default, I will not object to such things either. That said, a policy of community
consent is required to maintain a balance between the wishes of all
Envision's tenants. I am obligated to address the complaints of other
tenants regarding your content. If your content is found to be offensive to
other Envision residents, you may be asked to restrict access to your
content, or to refrain from that sort of content. If you
are told
that you should consider restricting access to your content, please proceed
in the following way(s):
- For voice,
such content is allowed as long as access to the parcel is restricted, since anyone
not granted access will be unable to connect to your voice chat.
- For text, such content must be in IMs or group chats only.
- For sound
effects, such content is allowed as long as access to the parcel is restricted, since anyone
not granted access will be unable to hear those sounds.
- For graphics
(objects, avatars and effects), such content is allowed when there is an
opaque
object surrounding the content from all sides. For example, an opaque,
closed-roof house that has windows with opaque curtains would be
acceptable.
Q: Are there any other rules on
Envision?
A:
No, but there are a
few guidelines -- basically, they are rules which are
somewhat flexible and open to interpretation :)
The following guidelines are about Terraforming (i.e., changing the
height of your land):
- Terraforming affects not only your land, but the land of
people around
you. It can dramatically change the appearance of another person's
build.
- For this reason, terraforming decisions must be made as a
community.
Please consult your neighbors before making large changes to the height
of your land -- especially land against the borders of your parcel.
- If you are dissatisfied with a terraform your neighbor has
recently performed, please
contact the Tenant first. If they will not agree to accommodate
your wishes, please contact me, and we will set up a meeting to work
out a compromise.
- If an agreeable terraforming plan can not be reached, I
will be forced
to favor one person's wishes over the other's. Senior Tenants
will be favored in these decisions.
The following guidelines are about content (not land):
- Envision
is an open-content island. This means, as long as there is no
observable non-PG content on another person's parcel, I will not act on
most
complaints about the content on another Tenant's parcel.
- If
another Tenant raises an objection about your content, I will not
take action unless we can answer "yes" to any of these questions about
the content:
- Does your content take a disproportional
amount of computing resources from the simulator, to the point that the
whole sim is lagged down? (Very heavy script IPS, loads of megaprims,
lots of physics, lots of sounds, etc.)
- Does your content cause
clients to lag much more than they do on average sims, to the point
that even fast computers have performance problems? (Same causes as
above)
- Is your content intended to heckle, agitate or harm
residents on other parcels?
- Do residents on other parcels find your content
agitating, harmful or bothersome?
- Is your content unable to be blocked out by those who
find it bothersome?
- The more of those questions are answered "yes", the more
likely I may ask you to remove that content.
The following guidelines are about visitors to your parcel:
- To the extent possible, please make sure that visitors on your parcel comply
with terraforming/content guidelines. You are ultimately responsible for your
parcel's visitors, much like I am responsible for the whole island.
- I may elect to ban visitors from the entire island if they repeatedly cause
trouble. The fact that a visitor gets on a parcel's ban list may or may not be
enough for me to elect to ban them from Envision.
- You
may file a complaint (attaching proof via chat logs or screenshots) to
get me to ban individuals from the entire island due to severe
misconduct on your parcel. A complaint of this sort is likely to result
in banning if the visitor continues to bother you, or others, once you
ban them from your parcel.
- As a Tenant, you and I hold dual responsibility for ensuring that
misbehaving visitors are handled properly. Please work with me, not against me,
on these matters.
Q: Great. That's a lot of
"don'ts".
Are there any
things which you can guarantee to me in return?
A:
Yes!
There are several things I can guarantee you.
- I will never ban someone who is an active Tenant, in
good standing, on Envision.
- I
will never alter your build (terraform, objects, etc.) based only on my
personal taste or opinions. Same goes for returning your objects.
- I
will not hold your possessions or your money hostage: I will reclaim
your land, return your objects, and refund payments if the need arises
to ban you, the Tenant.
- I will never ban you for failing to make your payments on
time. (But I may reclaim your land, as stated above.)
- I will give you no less than a 90 day notice if the
time comes to close down Envision.
- Anything you do which is not complained about by other Tenants, is explicitly allowed. That means
you can violate the guidelines, as long as your neighbors don't
complain.
- Tenants may petition to get a ban lifted by vouching
for someone who was banned.
- Tenants may petition to get themselves unbanned if
they feel the ban was unjust.
- Tenants may petition to get their land back if they
feel it was unjustly reclaimed.
- Ex-Tenants may request a refund for a fraction of a month during which they
did not have ownership of their parcel, but completed a payment for it.
- Petitions and complaints will be read within 24 hours
if at all possible; a decision will be announced as to the result of
the petition/complaint
Q: What's a petition,
and how do I file one?
A:
Petitions are to be
filed when I make a decision you don't agree with.
You can only make petitions on topics that I have allowed for in the
covenant. I promise to read and think on your entire petition, since it
is probable that I will make incorrect decisions while serving as
Estate Manager.
If you want to petition, then IM me, or drop a notecard on me with the following info:
(a) Please quote the section of the covenant which entitles you to make
this petition:
(b) Please describe your request:
(c) Please affirm that this is the first, and only, time that you will
petition for this particular request:
Q: What's a complaint, and how do I file
one?
A:
Complaints are to be
filed when you object to the behavior of other Tenants or
visitors on Envision.
To file a complaint, IM me, or drop a notecard on me with the following info:
(a) Please name the avatar the complaint is filed against:
(b) Please describe your complaint:
(c) Please indicate whether this is a new complaint or related to past
complaints, and describe if so.
